ISM Exchange

The Recognize Substation object option should be set when exporting or importing model data with an ISM repository.

The option is found on the Transformation tab in the Export to ISM, Import from ISM, Update to ISM, and Update from ISM dialogs.

  • ProStructures detects if selected objects belong to a Substation frame such as: Truss, Symmetric A Frame, Vertical Frame, Single Frame, or Lightning Rod.
  • If detected, ProStructures automatically adds all substation frame components to target sets during the export or update processes. Otherwise, only the selected objects are exported or updated as ProStructures objects, disregarding the Substation identity.
  • ProStructures also detects if the Substation frames are in the correct state. If the frames are in the "Physical Model" state, ProStructures stops the export or update process and displays an alert: Cannot exchnage physical model when 'Recognize Substation object' is selected.
  • During export, the axial behavior of Truss members is set to compression and tension. When updating to or from an ISM repository, Truss members always report to ProStructures as compression and tension.
  • Fix point supports are reported or added to the ISM repository for each Substation frame leg. Since support types cannot be changed in the ProStructures model - similar to the axial behavior - they cannot be synchronized with the ISM repository.
  • When the Recognize Substation object option is cleared, ProStructures exports all selected objects without checking their model state and treats all as ProStructures objects.
  • Upon completing analytical work in STAAD.Pro, you must first update the ISM repository to synchronize any changes. Then, update from the ISM repository in ProStructures to see the changes in the ProStructures model.
Tip: Only section size changes are allowed. Tapered or sloping truss chords can only have one section size, however top chords can be have different section sizes from the bottom chords.
